i finally found the first of what i’m sure will be many promotional blurbs about the upcoming museum retrospective i was asked to be a part of this coming September. so, i’m excited to announce my participation in a large mid-career retrospective exhibit for my art mentor and fellow AOA Collective founding member DAVMO! The exhibit will be held at the Contemporary Art Center of Virginia, considered to be among the leading museums of Modern Art in the United States.
The upcoming exhibit, entitled “davmo & The Young Guns” is a mid-career examination into this daring and highly prolific artist’s mixed media work. i was asked by davmo and the curators of the exhibition to participate, so obviously the answer was a resounding “yes!”. :-)
A little history: back in 1999, before i began selling my art, i was entranced by the work of davmo and began collecting his work for my personal collection. After some time went by and we struck up a friendship, i took some photos of the work i had begun creating and sent them to him to see what he thought of my work. The response was 2 sentences: “Sell it. Sell it NOW”. It was that belief in my vision that was the crux of my entering the art world as a selling artist. 9 years and about 1300 pieces later (whew!), i absolutely credit that friendship and belief by Dave as the reason why i began selling my work. i owe the man my career and i love him dearly.
a list of other artists participating is also forthcoming, but fellow AOA artist GUS FINK has already signed on!
More news coming soon, but until then, here’s the synopsis of the show found of CACV’s website:
