THH70 Happenings, Goings-On, New Art & Other Assorted Madness (A Year in the Making)

Hello, friends, and Seasons Greetings!

It’s been OVER A YEAR since this blog has been assaulted with my input, but I thought it was high time to throw something out there, as a lot has been going on. I hope 2013 has been a wonderful one for you.

Over this year, I’ve been involved in a bunch of projects, some new, some ongoing…if you follow my Facebook, my Twitter, and my Instagram, you’d know how my life has been & what I’ve been up to. If you don’t follow me on those sites yet, I highly suggest it and invite you to do so.  :-)

So, let’s get to it —->

BRAND NEW ART!

A couple new paintings I’d love to show you: first off is a new collaboration between myself and my buddy, C. Kirk. He’s currently in L.A., hanging out with me, as he is in the “Naughty Or Nice” group exhibit at Copro Gallery in Santa Monica that opens this evening at 8pm. If you’re in L.A., come on down!

On to some gallery show news —->

I’m currently in a show based in Stockholm, Sweden entitled “Turned Street Art”, where 23 artists across the globe were invited to paint onto wood turned candle bottles made by Sweden-based designer Daniel Franzén / Bunker Hill Productions

The exhibit opened in late November at designgalleriet, and all pieces are available for sale through Wallery Gallery. Below are photos of the three pieces I created. I believe one or two are still available HERE

I think that’s enough to throw at you…for now…  ;-)

There’s a bunch of new work in process, so expect to hear about it soon enough. I hope you and yours are having an incredible holiday season…let’s make 2014 the best year yet!

Don’t forget to follow me on my Facebook, my Twitter, and my Instagram…as well as my website www.thh70.com

Happy Holidays…and as always, thank you for your continued support!

Two New Paintings by THH70!

Hey, all… :-)
Back in the swing of things, creating some new work…finding myself embracing some of my more “raw” vibe lately…kinda bring it old school…

This time, it’s two new pieces, one on paper and one on canvas…enjoy!

“dropping the hammer”

“PAINTING (said the artist to the collector)”
18 x 24″
mixed media on gallery-stretched canvas
“…a minimalist piece created in the notion that every painting, no matter what imagery, symbolism, or it’s lack there of that it contains, says essentially the same thing by an artist to their audience…a constant…this is just one method in which to break it down to its bare essentials…” – THH70

**For information regarding price & availability, please email me@thh70.com

In “other artist” news, if you’re in Los Angeles this weekend, there’s an art opening for an artist I respect, Joshua Petker…I sadly won’t be in town to go, but if you’re in the city, I HIGHLY recommend you to attend!

It will be this Saturday, June 9th from 6 – 9pm at LeBasse Projects in Culver City, one of my favorite galleries in L.A….for more info on the show, CLICK HERE

Here’s one of my favorite pieces that will be in the show —

That’s about it for this post…I hope all of you are doing well…I can’t believe Summer is almost here!!! :-)

Two New Paintings by THH70 + Group Show Closing on May 16th!

Hey there, friends! Hoping your May has been a fantastic one so far…and for all you Mom’s out there, wishing you a day-late Happy Mother’s Day!  :-)

It’s been a busy last few weeks over here…and the beautiful L.A. weather has been an added pleasure…but, I wanted to throw some details on a couple new paintings that were completed, as well as a lil’ notice that a stellar group show I’m in is ending in just 2 days! And awaaaaaaaaay, we go:

Two new paintings completed — one on canvas, and the other on paper. The paper piece is the beginning of a new Abstract-only series I’ll be doing based on music chords (thus the series name “Striking a Chord”) where the name of each piece is named after a specific chord…and the canvas piece is a pretty funky one, if I do say so myself… ;-)

THH70 – Upcoming show in Detroit, MI opening 4/21 + New Painting!

Hey, everyone…hope you all had a Happy Passover and Happy Easter, and that you’re enjoying this lovely Spring!

Onto the news:

Image

I will once again be participating in the 2nd Annual LYRIC group show at 323 East Gallery, curated by my good friend and amazing artist Glenn Barr! I was so happy to be a part of the first show last year, so to be asked again was quite the thrill. The line-up for the show is pretty amazing!

For additional info on the show, please visit the 323 East website by CLICKING HERE.

The idea of the show is simple: each artist is to base a painting on a song lyric, and each painting is to be 12″ x 12″, the size of an album cover (for you youngsters out there, an album is a vinyl disc that you put on a turntable, and music comes out of the speakers). ;-)

I decided to base my painting on one of my favorite Jazz classics – King Pleasure’s “Moody’s Mood For Love” from 1952. You can hear the song HERE.

My painting is entitled “Heaven In Your Eyes”, and is mixed media on a birch box panel (something new for me), and measures, yes, 12″ x 12″! If you cannot attend the show, but are interested in getting more info on the piece / acquiring it, please e-mail gallery April Segedi at April@323East.com

Look out for some new pieces coming soon — works on paper, linen, and canvas…the last few months have been crazy busy with various projects and commissions, but don’t worry — there’s going to be a bunch of new pieces available shortly!

And if you haven’t checked out my brand-new website yet at THH70.com, go take a look!!!!

Until next time,

THH70 – NEW Website. NEW Artwork. NEW Vibe. NEW Shows. CHECK IT OUT! :-)

First off, HAPPY NEW YEAR!! For my initial blog of 2012, I want to wish you, your family, friends and loved ones a very Happy, Healthy, and Prosperous New Year!

2011 was a fantastic year, and I have high hopes that 2012 will even be better! That being said, there’s A LOT going on over here at THH70 HQ, so let’s get right into it:

MY BRAND-NEW WEBSITE IS UP!!!! That’s right — after months and months of planning (and procrastinating), the new site is now online! First off, you’ll notice the brand-new URL — www.thh70.com — after the last 4 years or so of having a different domain, I felt it was time to get back to basics, so THH70.com is back on the grid. As my style and technique has now hit a crossroads, my new series of work will be somewhat different than the last couple years (more on that below), I felt the new site should reflect that. It’s much more minimal, elegant, and straight to the point. No bells and whistles…just ART.  :-) I hope you enjoy it!

One of my closest friends just happens to be an extremely talented graphic & web designer, so I thought it would be a new experience having a professional designer have at it. If you are in the market to have some graphic design or website work done, I HIGHLY recommend my friend, Joey Seeman.  I told him what I needed, what I wanted, and not only did he ROCK it, the site ended up exceeding my expectations (thanks, Joey!!!). To check out his work, please go to www.joeyseemandesign.com

***To hit up the brand-spankin’-new THH70 website click HERE or the screenshot below:

The work I am in the midst of creating for 2012 is noticeably different (at least to me), but still “100% THH70”. After years of perfecting my technique of multi-layering paint, color, chemicals, and other nutty stuff, I thought it would be a challenge, as well as fun, to scale it all back, bring it back to the basics (see the running theme here?), and embrace a “less is more” aesthetic. So, for the new work, you’ll be noticing a reduced color palette, more Abstract elements, and in some cases, no text! I hope you enjoy the results…so far, I’m really excited and happy with them…I can honestly say that I haven’t felt this artistically invigorated and challenged in quite some time. Like a close friend tells me all the time, “It’s time to get out of your comfort zone”…so, that is what the latest canvas is titled, albeit in French.

This first piece I am releasing is a radical departure: purely Abstract, no text, and a more monochromatic color palette (layers of black, white, silver, and gold):

“zone de confort”

36 x 36″

This piece is available NOW! To inquire about the piece, E-MAIL ME.  :-)

UPCOMING SHOW NEWS:

I have 2 group shows on the calendar at the moment, with more shows to be added shortly:

Opening Saturday, February 25, 2012“Femme Fatale” Group Show at Cella Gallery, North Hollywood, CA. I’ll be exhibiting a brand-new 24 x 24″ canvas at this show. Co-curated by Stephanie Chefas and Nicole Bruckman, I’m really excited about this one, as it’s co-curated by Stephanie, editor of the AWESOME art blog PLATINUM CHEESE (you might remember, she profiled me on the site last year). I’d been bugging Stephanie for a while, telling her she needed to put her OWN show together, so I’m happy she finally assembled a kick-a** roster of artists to exhibit.

Opening April 2012“LYRIC” Group Show at 323East Gallery in Detroit, MI. Curated by AMAAAZING artist and friend Glenn Barr, last year’s show was so successful ( I was in that one as well), that they decided to do it all over again! The line-up last year was PHENOMENAL, so I expect this year’s to be equally insane, if not more!

I’ll be posting again soon as more work is completed and more show news pops in…I hope this update finds you all doing well, and that you’ve survived the holiday season in one piece! As always, many thanks for your continued support!

Now, what are you waiting for…GO CHECK OUT MY WEBSITE!!  ;-)

Best regards,

New Website, E-Mail Address, New Commissions + More News!

Hello, friends! It’s been a while since my last blog entry…needless to say it’s been quite a busy last few months! I hope this finds you all doing well, and getting ready for the holiday season to begin!

OK, let’s get right to it!

NEW EMAIL ADDRESS AND WEBSITE: My previous website, thh70online.com, has now exited this mortal coil…as well as my previous email address! I felt it was time to get back to basics and go back to my original website address, www.thh70.com! After having my previous website for the last 4 years or so, I felt it was due for a big change and go for something a lot more minimal and clean…so, the site is being revamped right now and should be up very shortly!

***To go along with the site change, I have changed my email address as well! My new email isme@thh70.com — so, please make sure to delete / change your address books to reflect this, as you will no longer be able to contact me at the old one…I’ll be notifying you once the new site goes live!

UPCOMING COMMISSIONED WORKS: I’m so excited to be starting two new commissioned pieces back-to-back! Once they’re finished, I’ll be posting photos, as well as more info, but what I can say is they are going to be reallllllly cool  :-)  One is a large-scale portrait where I’ll be experimenting with some new techniques that I’ll be adding to my work for 2012. For the other piece, I’ll be pulling out the stops on a much smaller-scale — and creating a one-of-a-kind work of art on an actual Hermés “Kelly” bag! For those of you that are familiar with fashion, you know how beautiful and “high-end” these bags are…so the thought of actually painting on one is pretty incredible (I can almost hear some of you ladies screaming “don’t do it!!!!!”…hahahaha). I’m creating it for a very major art collector who trusts me implicitly with this bag…so, I can’t wait until it’s finished! (A shot of the “Kelly” bag below…in it’s pristine box leather finish…God help me…LOL)

MY BIRTHDAY: I recently turned the ripe old age of 41(!) on October 23rd…a BIG thank you to all who sent me emails, cards, gifts, Facebook posts, Tweets, etc etc etc…you helped make my big day all the more special, and I appreciate it!

And now, a few pieces of info on some cool things by some close friends:

JOEY SEEMAN: An artist who I consider one of my closest friends, as well as someone that I have mentored for the past couple years, is Contemporary artist Joey Seeman. His colorful & vibrant work always puts a smile on my face…and the guy is just an all-out rockstar in my book. For those of you in Dallas, TX, he has an exhibit entitled “Masquerade” running thru the end of this week at the Magnolia Theater. I highly recommend you check it out if you’re in town! If not, by all means, view his awesome pieces at www.joeyseeman.com!

C. KIRK: Another artist who is like a brother to me, as well as another “mentoree”, is Contemporary artist C. Kirk. His dark, emotional Figurative work continues to blow me the f*** away, and I am so proud of him for the boundaries he continues to break with his art. He’s currently hard at work on pieces for 2012, and for some of it, he’ll be releasing a series of limited edition collaged gicleés, calling them his “Moreau” series. I know he’ll probably kill me for showing the image below (an exclusive!), but I can’t help it! To view his brilliant work, head over to www.ckirkart.com!

FULLASOUL RADIO: One last friendly tidbit — my music partner Dave Damato has a website devoted to Soul & R&B music from the 70’s up to the present day, and I’m so thrilled that he just created an AWESOME Internet radio station called, aptly enough, FullaSoul Radio! If you like listening to this type of music, as I do, then you really should take a listen…as well as check out his website FullaSoul! To listen to the radio station, CLICK HERE!

A lot of stuff to digest in this post…but I hope it contains loads of things to pique your interest! I’ll be in touch shortly when the new website goes live!

Until then…
