Please join us on Saturday, February 25th, as Cella Gallery debuts “Femme Fatale”, a group exhibition featuring the works of over 35 innovative artists handpicked by curators: Nicole Bruckman and Stephanie Chefas.
“Femme Fatale” gathers some of the most powerful contemporary artists whose inherent aesthetic is heavily influenced by the beauty of the female figure. The exhibition explores how individual perceptions of feminine allure can be expressed through each artist’s specific genre. Expect to be seduced, ensnared and dangerously dazzled as though in the crosshairs of a femme fatale herself.
Artists include:
Aaron Nagel, Apricot Mantle, Anna Chung, Aunia Kahn, Casey Weldon, Cate Rangel, Charles Ketcham, Chris Peters, Christopher Umana, Cristina Paulos, Chrystal Chan, David Bray, Dave MacDowell, Delphia, Douglas Alvarez, Edith Lebeau, Gail Potocki, Jason Rudulph Pena, JAW Cooper, Jeff Ramirez, Jessica Ward, JoKa, Jose Carabes, Ken Garduno, Korin Faught, Kris Moore, L.Croskey, Lily Mae Martin, Linnea Strid, Morgan Slade, Nicole Bruckman, Nom Kinnear King, Paul Chatem, Sara Haase, Sarah Folkman, Stella Im Hultberg, Ted von Heiland and THH70.

THH70 – NEW Website. NEW Artwork. NEW Vibe. NEW Shows. CHECK IT OUT! :-)

First off, HAPPY NEW YEAR!! For my initial blog of 2012, I want to wish you, your family, friends and loved ones a very Happy, Healthy, and Prosperous New Year!

2011 was a fantastic year, and I have high hopes that 2012 will even be better! That being said, there’s A LOT going on over here at THH70 HQ, so let’s get right into it:

MY BRAND-NEW WEBSITE IS UP!!!! That’s right — after months and months of planning (and procrastinating), the new site is now online! First off, you’ll notice the brand-new URL — www.thh70.com — after the last 4 years or so of having a different domain, I felt it was time to get back to basics, so THH70.com is back on the grid. As my style and technique has now hit a crossroads, my new series of work will be somewhat different than the last couple years (more on that below), I felt the new site should reflect that. It’s much more minimal, elegant, and straight to the point. No bells and whistles…just ART.  :-) I hope you enjoy it!

One of my closest friends just happens to be an extremely talented graphic & web designer, so I thought it would be a new experience having a professional designer have at it. If you are in the market to have some graphic design or website work done, I HIGHLY recommend my friend, Joey Seeman.  I told him what I needed, what I wanted, and not only did he ROCK it, the site ended up exceeding my expectations (thanks, Joey!!!). To check out his work, please go to www.joeyseemandesign.com

The work I am in the midst of creating for 2012 is noticeably different (at least to me), but still “100% THH70″. After years of perfecting my technique of multi-layering paint, color, chemicals, and other nutty stuff, I thought it would be a challenge, as well as fun, to scale it all back, bring it back to the basics (see the running theme here?), and embrace a “less is more” aesthetic. So, for the new work, you’ll be noticing a reduced color palette, more Abstract elements, and in some cases, no text! I hope you enjoy the results…so far, I’m really excited and happy with them…I can honestly say that I haven’t felt this artistically invigorated and challenged in quite some time. Like a close friend tells me all the time, “It’s time to get out of your comfort zone”…so, that is what the latest canvas is titled, albeit in French.

This first piece I am releasing is a radical departure: purely Abstract, no text, and a more monochromatic color palette (layers of black, white, silver, and gold):

This piece is available NOW! To inquire about the piece, E-MAIL ME.  :-)

UPCOMING SHOW NEWS:

I have 2 group shows on the calendar at the moment, with more shows to be added shortly:

Opening Saturday, February 25, 2012“Femme Fatale” Group Show at Cella Gallery, North Hollywood, CA. I’ll be exhibiting a brand-new 24 x 24″ canvas at this show. Co-curated by Stephanie Chefas and Nicole Bruckman, I’m really excited about this one, as it’s co-curated by Stephanie, editor of the AWESOME art blog PLATINUM CHEESE (you might remember, she profiled me on the site last year). I’d been bugging Stephanie for a while, telling her she needed to put her OWN show together, so I’m happy she finally assembled a kick-a** roster of artists to exhibit.

Opening April 2012“LYRIC” Group Show at 323East Gallery in Detroit, MI. Curated by AMAAAZING artist and friend Glenn Barr, last year’s show was so successful ( I was in that one as well), that they decided to do it all over again! The line-up last year was PHENOMENAL, so I expect this year’s to be equally insane, if not more!

I’ll be posting again soon as more work is completed and more show news pops in…I hope this update finds you all doing well, and that you’ve survived the holiday season in one piece! As always, many thanks for your continued support!

Now, what are you waiting for…GO CHECK OUT MY WEBSITE!!  ;-)

Best regards,

New Website, E-Mail Address, New Commissions + More News!

Hello, friends! It’s been a while since my last blog entry…needless to say it’s been quite a busy last few months! I hope this finds you all doing well, and getting ready for the holiday season to begin!

OK, let’s get right to it!

NEW EMAIL ADDRESS AND WEBSITE: My previous website, thh70online.com, has now exited this mortal coil…as well as my previous email address! I felt it was time to get back to basics and go back to my original website address, www.thh70.com! After having my previous website for the last 4 years or so, I felt it was due for a big change and go for something a lot more minimal and clean…so, the site is being revamped right now and should be up very shortly!

***To go along with the site change, I have changed my email address as well! My new email isme@thh70.com — so, please make sure to delete / change your address books to reflect this, as you will no longer be able to contact me at the old one…I’ll be notifying you once the new site goes live!

UPCOMING COMMISSIONED WORKS: I’m so excited to be starting two new commissioned pieces back-to-back! Once they’re finished, I’ll be posting photos, as well as more info, but what I can say is they are going to be reallllllly cool  :-)  One is a large-scale portrait where I’ll be experimenting with some new techniques that I’ll be adding to my work for 2012. For the other piece, I’ll be pulling out the stops on a much smaller-scale — and creating a one-of-a-kind work of art on an actual Hermés ”Kelly” bag! For those of you that are familiar with fashion, you know how beautiful and “high-end” these bags are…so the thought of actually painting on one is pretty incredible (I can almost hear some of you ladies screaming “don’t do it!!!!!”…hahahaha). I’m creating it for a very major art collector who trusts me implicitly with this bag…so, I can’t wait until it’s finished! (A shot of the “Kelly” bag below…in it’s pristine box leather finish…God help me…LOL)

MY BIRTHDAY: I recently turned the ripe old age of 41(!) on October 23rd…a BIG thank you to all who sent me emails, cards, gifts, Facebook posts, Tweets, etc etc etc…you helped make my big day all the more special, and I appreciate it!

And now, a few pieces of info on some cool things by some close friends:

JOEY SEEMAN: An artist who I consider one of my closest friends, as well as someone that I have mentored for the past couple years, is Contemporary artist Joey Seeman. His colorful & vibrant work always puts a smile on my face…and the guy is just an all-out rockstar in my book. For those of you in Dallas, TX, he has an exhibit entitled “Masquerade” running thru the end of this week at the Magnolia Theater. I highly recommend you check it out if you’re in town! If not, by all means, view his awesome pieces at www.joeyseeman.com!

C. KIRK: Another artist who is like a brother to me, as well as another “mentoree”, is Contemporary artist C. Kirk. His dark, emotional Figurative work continues to blow me the f*** away, and I am so proud of him for the boundaries he continues to break with his art. He’s currently hard at work on pieces for 2012, and for some of it, he’ll be releasing a series of limited edition collaged gicleés, calling them his “Moreau” series. I know he’ll probably kill me for showing the image below (an exclusive!), but I can’t help it! To view his brilliant work, head over to www.ckirkart.com!

FULLASOUL RADIO: One last friendly tidbit — my music partner Dave Damato has a website devoted to Soul & R&B music from the 70′s up to the present day, and I’m so thrilled that he just created an AWESOME Internet radio station called, aptly enough, FullaSoul Radio! If you like listening to this type of music, as I do, then you really should take a listen…as well as check out his website FullaSoul! To listen to the radio station, CLICK HERE!

A lot of stuff to digest in this post…but I hope it contains loads of things to pique your interest! I’ll be in touch shortly when the new website goes live!

Until then…

THH70 – back to the grind / new works in progress / now showing at LAB ART L.A.!

Hey, everyone! It’s been quite a while since my last blog (March 18th, to be exact), so I felt that things were due for a little game of “catch-up”. :-)

After the close of my last show “some of its parts” at Hold Up Art here in Los Angeles, I felt I needed a little self-imposed hiatus since I was working so hard on that show for over 6 months. So, I vanished for a little bit to recharge the ol’ batteries…but, now it’s time to get back to work!

A couple things going on to share:

  • I’ve begun some commissioned paintings, most notably some work for an absolutely wonderful collector out in Dallas, TX. She is one of the stars of a reality show on The Style Network, and one of the paintings I’m working on will be featured in the season that’s currently filming (once the piece is completed and shipped out to her). More news on that once the piece is completed and I can share photos with all of you. Another piece for her home in Spain is also in the works…
  • My work is now being shown in one of the hottest galleries in L.A.! —- Earlier this month, the nation’s largest gallery devoted primarily to Street Art (and Urban-themed work) opened here in Los Angeles…actually about a 5 minute walk from my house! LAB ART Los Angeles is owned by former fashion designer Iskander Lemseffer, and the place is pretty much a 6500 square foot explosion of TONS of work, mostly by L.A.’s most famous (and infamous) Street artists. The gallery couldn’t have opened at a better time, what with the current “Art in the Streets” exhibit at MOCA and the “Street Cred” exhibit at Pasadena Museum of California Art going on thru the summer. I’m especially happy for my work to be hanging at LAB ART during their next show opening in July which will feature artists like Swoon and Miss Van (a couple personal faves of mine)! The gallery is currently a “media darling”, with glowing reviews from The Wall Street Journal, L.A. Times, Forbes, Huffington Post, and many many more…

(above — 5 of my canvases hanging at LAB ART)

Considering I am not a street artist, I was actually pretty surprised to be invited to have my work as part of the gallery’s offerings, but Iskander was extremely excited when he saw my work for the first time, and I was taken by his enthusiasm for what I’ve been working on, so we decided to partner up! I wholeheartedly encourage all of you to check out the gallery if you’re in Los Angeles…it’s a “must-see”! Ask for Iskander, and tell him that THH70 sent ya! For more info:

Check out video of the grand opening:

LAB ART Los Angeles – Grand Opening from LAB ART Los Angeles Gallery on Vimeo.

***Some other projects are in the works right now, including a new collaboration with my friend C. Kirk, as well as an upcoming group show early next year here in L.A. that’s curated by Stephanie Chefas of art blogsite Platinum Cheese fame. But, those and other tidbits will just have to wait until next time!  ;-)

Until then,

THH70 in “LYRIC” Group Show in Detroit– Opens Tomorrow 3/19/11!

LYRIC“, the utterly FANTASTIC group show that I am participating in, opens tomorrow night, Saturday, March 19th at 323 East Gallery in Royal Oak, Michigan (Detroit Rock City, people!!). :-)

Curated by my friend and fellow artist Glenn Barr (who I first met at our show together in Dallas, TX in January 2010), LYRIC is a show based on music, plain and simple, and how the power of lyrics can (and will) speak to you. The theme of the show really hits home for me, as my work relies so heavily on how words are used…or misused. ;-) FULL DETAILS OF THE SHOW / ONLINE PREVIEW!

The show is ridiculously amazing — the line-up of artists that Glenn got is probably the best roster of artists I’ve ever been in a show with (and that’s saying a lot): Jeff Soto, Gary Taxali, Cammy D’Errico, Travis Louie, Brandt Peters, Kathie Olivas, Chet Zar, Brandi Milne, Bask…the list goes on and on. My FAVORITE part about the show is that my good friend Joey Seeman is also in it, who was also in the show with Glenn and I back in Dallas. The Three Amigos strike again!!! LOL

I highly stress that if you’re in the Detroit area this weekend (or thru the show’s run, ending on April 19th), that you head over to check it out. If you cannt attend, here is the link to the special online preview to view all the work. CLICK HERE!

If you’re interested in purchasing, contact April Segedi at april@323east.com or via phone at 248//246//9544.

My painting for the show is entitled “Runaway Train”, measures 12 x 12″, is mixed media on canvas, priced at $825.00, and is based on a lyric from the Prince song “When 2 R In Love” that appeared on his 1987 “Black Album”, as well as the 1988 album “Lovesexy”. To listen to the song, CLICK HERE!

***In other show news, my current show in Los Angeles, “some of its parts” is still going strong!***

The show continues thru March 31st, so hit up Hold Up Art Gallery if you’re in L.A.! If not, check out the ONLINE PREVIEW and e-mail me to check on availability of any work you’re interested in…

Thanks!
